SOCIAL IMPACT
- Social media has had, and will continue to have an impact on almost every part of our lives; from our businesses, education, and medicine to our political and especially our social lives. It has now become fairly simple to find long lost friends, relatives, or next door neighbors. Social networks affect the way we get a job, find a date, the way we dress, learn, laugh, and love. On a rainy day or if we are bored we can go to YouTube and find a funny video to laugh at. If we are having a rough day a friend can chat with us and make us feel better. If we meet a cute guy/girl we may find and add them as a friend. Social media is truly a revolution.
- When a child is punished, is it so bad to be sent to their room anymore? They may have had tv or a radio before, but if they have any sort of connection to the internet they probably would rather be in their room. Whether it’s through their phone, ipod, or computer most kids know they can get on the internet and talk to their friends. Parents are forced to find other sources of punishment for their kids; maybe “NO TWITTER FOR YOU TONIGHT!” will be the threat of the era.
- Social networks encourage people to not feel so alone. If someone has lived their whole life thinking they were the only ones who really truly loved to garden; they would be delighted to know that there is a plethora of sites dedicated to gardening. If there is a person who loves to play board games but no one they know will play with them, there are sites where they can go and not only play against other people, but chat with them. Social media connects people with similar interests and has the ability to make people very happy in ways that were not possible before. Social networking sites are bringing people together for love, friendship and many other things. People are being connected across borders, seas, and oceans like never before.
- Social media has made it easier than ever to find that special someone. Tens of millions of people are turning to online dating for love. Some sites are free, others charge a fee. Just as there are sites for people to go and meet others with the same interests, there are dating sites to meet many different kinds of people.
